Overview

TheTime is a personal time tracker. It enables you to keep track of your most valuable asset - your time. Or you can keep track of anything that starts and stops, or starts and stop again and again. And it does it the easy natural iPhone way.

Anything you time is called an "activity". An activity consists of zero or more "time laps". A time lap has a "start time" and a "stop time", which are shown as date and time: (YYYY-MM-DD HH-MM-SS +XXXX), where XXXX is the offset from the UTC (Universal Coordinated Time) for the time zone you happened to be in. And the total time of an activity is the total of all the completed time laps, and is shown in hours, minutes, seconds (H:MM:SS). Each activity has a unique ID, and a name and description which you can choose. An activity which is being currently timed is called "active". You can have many active activities at the same time. An activity which appears in the "Do" mode is called "current", this activity can be started or stopped. If the current activity is active (has been started), and TheTime has been closed, the current activity ID will be displayed as a badge in the TheTime application icon.

TheTime has 7 main screens, corresponding to the 7 modes: "Do", "See", "Manage", "Graph", "Correct", "Reset", and "Help". These modes are accessed by selecting the appropriate tab at the bottom of the screen.

The Do Mode           To Top

TheTime always starts in the "Do" mode.

When TheTime is started the first time it has just one current activity, named as "current". Which you can rename to whatever you want, like: Sleeping, Eating, etc. And you can add a description.

In the Do mode you start timing an activity or stop timing it. You can also edit the name of the activity and add a description to help you remember what it does.

To start timing the current activity, tap the green "Start" button. And when the current activity stops, tap the red "Stop" button. And, if you start doing the same thing again, tap the "Start" button again. And every time you "stop" you will see the total time you spent on that activity in hours, minutes, and seconds (H:MM:SS), like 2:25:12. And when you "start", you will see the time of starting the current activity lap displayed as date and time.

Once an activity is started, it will continue to be timed even if you close TheTime, or switch off your iPhone.

The See Mode           To Top

In TheTime you can see the details of each time lap for the current activity in the "See" mode. These laps are shown as a scrolling table list. The currently timed lap table cell is marked with yellow background. The total time of the completed laps is shown in the table title.

The Manage Mode           To Top

In the "Manage" mode you can see the list of all the activities with all the active activities names are shown in red, and the current activity cell marked with yellow. To change the current activity tap the activity you want to make current, and you will be taken to the Do mode, where you can start, stop or rename this activity. You can also add new activities, and delete the ones you do not need any more.

The Graph Mode           To Top

In the "Graph" mode you are presented with a color Pie Chart graph of the 10 (or all, if less than 10) most time consuming activities for the past 24 hours. The rest of the activities (if more than 10) are grouped together as "Other", and any time not accounted for during that period is shown as "Unaccounted".

The legend at the side of the Pie Chart shows the ID, name, time, and percentage of the total period, in colors and order corresponding to the slices of the chart. The first activity in the chart start at the left of the horizontal axis (+x) and the rest follow in the clockwise direction.

The default period of the past 24 hours can be changed to any period by selecting the "From" and "To" text fields at the top of the screen.

The chart can be emailed by pressing the blue "Send" button below the chart.

The emailed chart can be scaled from 1.00 to 5.00 times the original size, before being emailed, by selecting the desired scale factor using the slider below the chart.

The Correct Mode           To Top

The "Correct" mode allows to add positive or negative corrections to the current activity time. This feature is intended for cases when a user has forgotten to start timing an activity or to stop timing an activity.

A correction has a start time and an end time, like the ordinary time laps, but in addition to that it has a sign (positive or negative) and has a user provided "reason", saying why it was necessary.

Positive corrections are added to the total activity time, while negative corrections are subtracted from it. Thus, the Total Time is equal to the sum of all the completed timing time laps, plus the sum of all the positive corrections, minus the sum of all the negative corrections.

In the See Mode View, corrections are shown with a pink background, their time has a sign "+" or "-", and the reason is shown at the bottom of the correction cell.

To delete a correction, go to the See Mode View, find the correction to be deleted, and swipe along the correction cell from right to left - a red "delete" button will appear. Tapping on that delete button will delete the correction. Tapping anywhere else on the See Mode View table will remove the delete button.

The Reset Mode           To Top

The "Reset" mode allows to reset the total time of the current activity to 0, or to reset all the activities times to 0. To prevent inadvertent reset the Reset Buttons are disabled, and safety switches are provided to enable these buttons, if required. To reset, set the Enable Reset Switch to ON, and then tap the enabled Reset Button.
